Sertoma Park — paved park loop — detailed guide
Source review: 2026-10-12. A dated source review does not guarantee current-day conditions.
Sertoma Park in Bismarck has a 3.2-mile paved shared-use loop connecting its riverfront and recreation grounds. Ride one circuit and return to the same parking area. Your short walked parking approach is extra. This outing stays on the main asphalt loop; it does not add the Bill Mills interpretive trail, golf-course paths or the longer Riverfront Trail.
Start and circuit
Enter Sertoma Park on Riverside Park Road and follow park signs to the south-end public parking near FitLot and the obstacle course. The park's general address is 300 Riverside Park Road. The owner lists public south-end parking and shows this lot and FitLot on its interactive park map. Do not use the nearby maintenance-shop yard or Riverwood Golf Course parking as substitutes.
Walk your bicycle from the lot to the main paved loop. Join the loop toward the eastern/southern edge of the park, continue around the south side, then follow the western riverfront portion north. Stay on the main asphalt circuit at the north-end connections and return south through the park's recreation grounds to your starting approach. Use the owner map and park signs at branches.
The owner reference geometry forms a connected main circuit. Short exit spurs and a parallel path at a southern junction are not additional ride miles. Follow the main signed loop rather than entering the interpretive trail, attraction grounds, golf course or maintenance areas.
This is a shared park route with parking, driveway and road interfaces. Stop for traffic and obey every posted crossing control; walk your bicycle where needed. The current diagram was reviewed for the course and nearby facilities, but crossing controls were not inspected on site. Do not treat this as an uninterrupted vehicle-free circuit or detour onto a road around a barricade.
Terrain and visit planning
The municipal GIS describes the loop as asphalt, approximately ten feet wide. A separate review of 22 USGS terrain samples along the mapped loop and its short spurs found roughly twelve feet of elevation variation. That suggests modest overall terrain relief; it is an inference from sampled ground data, not the ride's cumulative ascent, a maximum slope or an accessibility certification. Local ramps, cross-slopes and pavement defects may differ from the samples.
Expect walkers and busy recreation areas. Ride slowly, keep dogs leashed and choose daylight. Park hours are 6 a.m.–11 p.m. The reviewed pages do not explicitly establish an ordinary trail admission or parking fee; check current signs. Attraction admission, bike rentals and shelter reservations are separate activities. Restrooms are listed, but seasonal operation is not guaranteed. Carry water.
Conditions and sources
Checked October 12, 2026 UTC (October 11 Central). Reviewed current park information, owner map data, rules and the district's project/closure page. That page identifies a River Road Trail closure near the BNSF bridge and north of the Lewis & Clark Riverboat/The Landing; it does not identify the whole Sertoma loop as closed. This guide excludes that northern extension. No specific Sertoma-loop closure was found in those reviewed sources. Weather alerts, access work and current signs can still change the outing.
