Washington · Other separated ride

This short outing follows the paved Salmon Creek Greenway main trail from the softball-field access to the picnic-table junction below Cougar Creek, then returns the same way. Salmon Creek — picnic-junction return — detailed guide

Source review: 2026-10-12. A dated source review does not guarantee current-day conditions.

This short outing follows the paved Salmon Creek Greenway main trail from the softball-field access to the picnic-table junction below Cougar Creek, then returns the same way. Allow about 2.6 miles, plus the walked approach from parking. The distance comes from doubling the older county map’s 1.3-mile main-trail segment; it is approximate and has not been surveyed for this guide.

Clark County describes the three-mile Salmon Creek trail as relatively flat except for the climb to Northwest 36th Avenue at its western end. This guide turns around well before that climb. It also excludes the steep path up Cougar Creek. Current park and trail profile, Cougar Creek junction information

Start and course

Start at the public parking lot by the Vancouver Girls Softball Association fields, accessed from Northeast Hazel Dell Avenue. The county explicitly identifies this lot as a Salmon Creek trail access and lists restrooms there. Use designated public spaces, observe event and parking signs, and walk your bicycle from the lot to the paved main trail. This is the sports-field access west of the Klineline Pond area, rather than a neighborhood street, private driveway or swimming-area path.

Follow the solid-line main trail west into the greenway. Stay on the main paved path alongside the creek and wetlands. Do not take a pond loop, the dotted southern side-trail route, a native-surface branch or a sports-field path to make a circuit. The county’s map distinguishes the main route from side trails. County trail map

Turn around at the picnic table under Douglas firs where Cougar Creek Trail joins the Salmon Creek main trail. The current Cougar Creek profile places this junction about halfway along Salmon Creek. Stay below the climbing connector: do not ride up the stairs or steep uphill path toward Northwest 119th Street. Retrace the same paved main trail to the softball-field access and walk back through the lot.

If you miss the picnic-table junction, turn back at a comfortable point rather than continuing to the western road entrance. This guide does not include the final approach to Northwest 36th Avenue/Felida Bridge, the Cougar Creek trail, the dotted side trails, the Klineline Pond beach area, highway-side connections or the route toward Washington State University. A barrier on the selected main path means shortening the ride and returning; it does not justify a street or steep-path detour.

The county map marks 1.3 miles on the eastern main-trail portion and separately shows an approximately half-mile eastern park approach. This guide uses the softball-field access, not that entire additional approach from the easternmost Klineline access. The current profiles corroborate the public sports-field lot and the named picnic-table junction. The map is dated May 2018 and remains useful for orientation, but it does not supply a present surveyed parking pin, every driveway detail or a verified navigation track.

Suitability and visit planning

The owner’s relatively-flat description supports selecting this middle/eastern paved section while leaving out the western entrance slope. It does not give a measured maximum grade or total climbing for this return ride. Expect bends, surface joints, wet leaves and shared-trail traffic; walk any uncomfortable approach.

The county bicycle-trail inventory identifies hard-surface main-trail segments suitable for road bicycles, while nearby Salmon Creek park loops and native-surface branches have different flags. This guide follows the paved shared main trail rather than treating every path in the park as equally suitable. Inventory flags and a recent publication timestamp do not establish today’s surface condition or replace posted rules.

Hours are 7 a.m. to dusk. Choose daylight and leave time to return before gates close. Yield to walkers, mobility-device users and other trail users, slow at junctions and announce passing. This guide is for an ordinary pedal bicycle. Dogs must follow county leash rules; Klineline Pond’s separate main-use area prohibits pets across its entrance bridge, except service animals. This ride does not go through that area. County park rules

The county charges $5 per day for vehicle parking at the Klineline Pond entrance, and its regional annual parking pass costs $40 for 2026. The reviewed sources do not expressly confirm the fee arrangement at the separate softball-field lot, so check that lot’s signs and pay any required fee. No free-parking promise is supplied. The 2018 map’s lower vehicle fees are obsolete. Current fee update

Bring water. Restrooms are listed at the sports-field access, but operating hours and drinking-water availability have not been checked on site. The seasonal splash pad and swimming amenities at Klineline are separate from this ride. Organized games or events may reduce parking availability.

Conditions and review

Reviewed October 12, 2026 UTC, while it was October 11 locally. Current county profiles describe the public access, paved trail and junction. They do not provide a dated inspection or an unconditional all-clear for this selected section. Low creekside ground can become wet or flooded; obey local barriers and return if water, debris, weather or repairs interrupt the path.

The Klineline accessibility project lists design in 2025–2026 and construction anticipated in 2027. That planning schedule does not itself announce closure of this main-trail outing or prove construction complete. Check fresh owner notices, lot access, signs and tread before riding.

Editorial draft complete with these qualifications. Fresh launch checks and integration into Joy Riders USA remain pending. No surveyed parking pin or navigation GPX is supplied.
