Northaven Trail — Inwood parking to before the Strait Lane approach — detailed guide
Source review: 2026-10-16. A dated source review does not guarantee current-day conditions.

This is a short paved outing of about half a mile on the main trail, out and back, with the parking walk extra. Start from the designated trail parking on the west side of Inwood Road, go west across Bachman Creek, and return before reaching the raised dividers on the Strait Lane street approach. The route stays on the same side of both boundary roads. It does not include Northaven’s full corridor, a road crossing at Inwood, or a crossing of Strait Lane.
Friends of Northaven Trail describes the Inwood section as a wide paved walking and cycling path with flat terrain. That is useful qualitative information for a casual outing, not a measured maximum slope or a certification of every bridge approach. The setting is an urban utility greenbelt with neighborhood connections, some trees and planted areas. It is a shared trail: expect walkers, runners, children, other cyclists and people entering from nearby streets.
Arrive at the designated trail lot
Use the parking identified in the organization’s current parking guide as Parking Lot off of Inwood Road, on the west side of Inwood. Its homepage also identifies this trail lot as 11373 Inwood Road. The organization’s parking map point distinguishes it from other nearby parking.
Public aerial review places the lot immediately south of the main trail. Walk the bicycle through the vehicle area and join the main path at the western end of the lot. Yield before entering the trail. The parking approach is additional distance; a particular space, curb route or protected walkway from every stall has not been surveyed.
Do not substitute the Grace Bible Church/Academy parking across Inwood, a residential driveway or the organization’s mailing address. Starting from the designated western lot avoids needing the Inwood HAWK street crossing for this outing. Check the actual lot signs when arriving. The organization warns that events and construction can change parking terms and that it does not control parking enforcement. Ordinary parking fees and any posted duration limit remain unverified.
Follow the short western section
From the western main-path join, head west, away from Inwood Road. Follow the broad paved main as it bends through the greenbelt. Stay on the main trail when neighborhood paths join; do not turn onto Northaven Road or into adjoining properties.
Continue over the named Bachman Creek Bridge. The organization’s Inwood page identifies this creek crossing, and its map links to an October 2023 public panorama showing the concrete bridge and railings. That older view helps explain the layout but does not establish current surface condition or barrier spacing. Slow for bridge approaches and opposing users; walk if the available space is uncomfortable. Keep any stop clear of the passage.
West of the bridge, Strait Lane lies ahead. Turn back on clear pavement before the raised center-divider approach to that street. The organization’s Strait Lane map point links to an October 2023 panorama showing the street, STOP sign, marked crossing and raised dividers. This outing stops well before that narrow approach; it does not use the crosswalk or weave around the islands.
Look behind before changing direction and let other users pass. Choose an earlier turnaround if people, a barrier or other conditions leave insufficient room. There is no surveyed turning pad. Return along the same main path, recross Bachman Creek and walk the bicycle back through the parking area.
Distance and terrain
The approximately 0.5-mile main return is an editorial estimate for this bounded course. An internal reference interpreted the visible pavement between the lot’s western main join and a point roughly 54 metres east of the organization’s Strait Lane road marker, before its approach dividers. That reference gives about 0.50 mile for the return. Image-point uncertainty and the actual clear turning spot can change the result. Parking walks are excluded.
An earlier incomplete online measurement changed scale and was discarded. A closer-to-road reference was also rejected after the divider imagery was reviewed. Neither is the stated ride distance. No GPX, surveyed start/turn pin, elevation profile or public navigation line is approved.
The city’s linked whole-trail map says 8.5 miles, while the organization describes approximately nine or more miles. Those are corridor descriptions with different extents or rounding, not the length of this short outing.
Hours, rules and current access
The organization publishes trail hours of 5 a.m.–11 p.m. and says the trail is free to use. Choose daylight for this unfamiliar short route and obey any more restrictive posted lot controls. Free trail use does not establish a free parking tariff. Its published speed limit is 10 mph; slow further around people, curves and bridge approaches, keep right, yield and announce passing.
This guide covers ordinary pedal bicycles. The organization’s current vehicle guidance permits specified pedal-powered e-bike classes, while the city still displays a differently worded motorized-vehicle notice dated July 2018. That discrepancy has not been resolved against current city law; this draft does not supply blanket device permission or alter disability-related access.
The city alert list and current organization pages were reviewed on October 16. No source read supplied a named current all-clear for this exact subsection. The organization advertises an October 31 meadow work day just west of Inwood, so check for activity and posted controls rather than treating an event listing as unrestricted access. Older panoramas are not present-day inspections. Refresh actual parking terms, trail notices, bridge condition and turning clearance before publication.
