This short paved outing follows Mill Creek Greenway toward Browns Ferry Road, then retraces the same path. Keep to the established greenway beside the creek; the dog-park enclosures, school grounds and newly opened Mill Creek Nature Preserve are separate places with different uses.
Distance: up to about 1 mile out and back, plus the parking walk. Set a half-mile turnaround on your own distance counter, or turn sooner at the main path's end, a public-road interface, a barrier or standing water. This is a designed short outing, not an official milepost course. The trail organization describes the original Mill Road–Browns Ferry corridor as about 0.6 mile, while the 2025 local overview lists a broader 1.5-mile Mill Creek network. Those different scopes are not added together or used to promise a three-mile return here.
Start: use the designated Mill Road / Balch Road greenway parking identified on the city-linked 2025 local overview. The trail organization independently identifies a dedicated lot near this intersection, using 167 Silo Hill Road as a reference. Follow the public greenway parking signs; do not park at a private house, in the school lot or on a residential access drive. Walk your bicycle from the vehicle area to the marked main greenway access and check all vehicle movements. No surveyed parking-stall pin or exact walking distance is supplied.
Course: follow the main paved Mill Creek Greenway toward Browns Ferry Road. Stay on that path, passing any neighborhood or dog-park access spurs. At half a mile, or earlier if the route ends or reaches an unsuitable interface, turn and retrace to the Mill Road start. Turn before riding on or crossing a public street. This outing does not include a roadside connection to Bradford Creek, a branch into a subdivision, or natural trails in Mill Creek Nature Preserve.
Surface and effort: asphalt on the original main corridor, according to the trail organization's description. The independent onX profile rates this short greenway Easy; its computer-generated elevation figures are not a surveyed maximum slope or an accessibility certification. The dog park's gently rolling grass is not the riding surface. Expect wet leaves, grit or mud after rain, and turn back when the creek-side path is flooded or unsuitable.
Traffic and sharing: share the main greenway with walkers and people bringing dogs to the adjacent park. Slow at dog-park and neighborhood access points, give others room and announce a pass. Walk through the parking area. Do not ride inside the dog-park fencing or use a street or school ground to bypass a blockage.
Hours and cost: exact greenway and lot hours and a separate ordinary admission fee were not specified in the reviewed current pages. Choose daylight and obey posted opening, parking and closure terms. Recreation-center membership, pavilion rentals and sports fees do not establish a greenway admission charge. Bring drinking water; an open restroom was not verified. E-bike class eligibility remains unconfirmed.
Access check: the city still lists Mill Creek among its open greenways. Its indexed October 2026 clean-up announcement assigns volunteers to the greenway for October 17; that invitation is not proof the work happened or that the whole route is currently clear. No notice closing this selected short course appeared in the limited pages reviewed October 19. The main city description retains old “soon” wording about the Browns Ferry connection, so the later map and original-corridor description are kept separate. This is a desktop source check, not a current pavement, flood or parking inspection.
