Hours, costs and access

Reviewed 2026-10-22. DNR confirms the first six Taconite miles from Grand Rapids are paved. Its plan identifies that stretch as shared with Mesabi: one outing is counted, not two aliases. Current Mesabi work page contains unfinished distant sections and spring/fall forecasts; none certifies a full Grand Rapids–Ely through-ride. County turned campsite water off October 15; do not depend on it. This is a source review, not a same-day inspection. Recheck the linked manager before travel.
Map and Directions
Use the named public start and its posted parking signs. The map reference identifies the facility or selected trail area; it is not a surveyed parking stall or navigable route line. Bicycle and e-bike rules can differ; only ordinary bicycle use is established unless noted.
