Ride at a glance
- Suggested ride: approximately 3 miles, out and back, based on the mapped mile-zero and mile-1.5 markers. Parking approaches and turnaround position add variation.
- Surface: crushed stone; choose ordinary bicycle tires suitable for compacted stone. Recent rain, loose material and washouts can change the surface.
- Terrain: the county describes the trail as well-graded and level. Maximum grade and elevation gain have not been measured for this outing.
- Start: designated Champ Boulevard trail parking, near the Lancaster County Public Safety Training Center and Route 283. Use the trail map to find the entrance; no precise street number or parking-stall coordinate is supplied.
- Hours: dawn to dusk, subject to posted restrictions.
- Fees: no ordinary admission or parking fee appears in the reviewed trail page. Current fee-free access was not independently confirmed; use posted information. Event reservations have separate rules.
The outing
Use a marked space in the Champ Boulevard trail lot. Walk your bicycle through the parking area to the trail's southern mile-zero entrance. Follow the main Lancaster Junction trail north.
The maps show a Spooky Nook Road crossing between the half-mile and one-mile markers. Stop before entering the roadway, check for traffic and cross only when safe. You encounter this location again on the return. Do not assume vehicles will stop for you.
Continue to the mapped mile-1.5 marker, then turn back before the next road or access interface shown farther north. Turn clear of other users and retrace the same route to Champ Boulevard. If markers or access differ from the map, choose an earlier turnaround; do not improvise a road detour.
This outing excludes the northern Auction Road end. The county expressly says it no longer provides sanctioned parking there and directs trail visitors to Champ Boulevard. Auction Road is not an alternative starting lot for this guide.
Full-trail distances differ between sources: the directory gives 2.3 miles, a 2021 access map ends at 2.25, and the 2024 map labels approximately 2.33 while also showing a northern 2.5 marker. This entry uses a shorter bounded return instead of asserting an exact full-trail distance.
Rules and practical details
Ordinary bicycling is expressly permitted. Keep right, announce passes and pass single file with care. Expect walkers and horses; horse riders are instructed to use a walking pace. Leash pets, remove waste, carry out litter and stay on the designated trail. Alcohol is prohibited.
The county accessibility policy expressly limits device access to people with mobility disabilities, with electric-device limits of 300 watts and 36 inches in width. Its e-bike paragraph is not evidence of unrestricted access for all riders or e-bike classes. Confirm the applicable rule with the manager if relevant.
The map marks a restroom at the southern lot; operating hours and seasonal availability were not confirmed. Bring water. This route has parking and road interfaces and no exhaustive driveway count or measured grade profile. Recheck the county page, posted notices and conditions before riding.
