Phoenix, Arizona · Up to 1 mile return · Concrete designated bicycle / pedestrian path; inspect access transitions
Start: Grand Canalscape — Urbandale Park, Urbandale Park at 20th Street and Grand Canal, Phoenix, AZ. City specifically names this public park as a place to park and enter Canalscape on foot or bike. Walk from the designated park spaces to the signed bank; do not substitute adjacent commercial or residential parking. Use designated ordinary visitor spaces, respect reserved spaces and walk through the lot to the signed main path. The address identifies a public facility, not a surveyed stall.
Ride: Follow the signed main path east on the signed concrete Grand Canalscape bank. Turn after 0.5 outward miles or before the first public-road crossing, work barrier, uncertain continuation or uncomfortable transition, whichever comes first; retrace. Walk any initial lot or access-drive interface. Do not use a road or private-property detour.
Distance: Chosen 1-mile maximum return, not the full regional corridor or a surveyed parking-to-parking distance. Earlier interfaces shorten the outing; parking walking is extra.
Permission and effort: Source-backed ordinary bicycle use on the designated improved main path; walking-only spurs and adjacent private property are excluded. Short canal-bank return is an editorial modest-effort selection, not a surveyed slope rating. Bridge and access ramps may rise; turn before an uncomfortable ramp.
Planning: Choose daylight and obey posted gate / parking hours. No current ordinary access tariff established; posted terms govern. Event, camping and rental charges are separate. Ordinary pedal bicycles only in this guide. SRP canal electric-device restrictions may apply; no e-bike permission inferred. Stay away from the water edge; do not enter the canal. Walk busy park access and stop before public streets.
Access reviewed October 20, 2026 Central (October 21 UTC): Fresh city pages describe existing concrete bicycle pathway and public park access, not a local field inspection or all-clear. Separate western 75th–47 th Avenue project does not establish a continuous link across the I 17 gap. Stay on the signed public bank; opposite maintenance bank is not an assumed equivalent. Heat, wind, storm debris and canal edge exposure warrant a short trial ride. This is a dated source review, not a field inspection or current-day all-clear. Postpone for snow, ice, high water, soft tread or barriers rather than improvising a bypass.
Bring water and choose suitable weather. Parking walking is extra. No surveyed parking-space pin or navigable GPX is supplied.
