Road crossings
pass the mapped crossings of South Barlow Street, Harris Avenue South and Woolf Avenue. Stop and check traffic at every crossing; a trail does not give you automatic priority over a road. On reaching The Wagon Road, turn around on the trail before entering the roadway, leaving space for other users. Retrace the same trail to Eubanks. The three intermediate street crossings are encountered again on the return. Driveways or local access may also carry vehicles; this is a mostly separated ride with street crossings, not an uninterrupted car-free course.
Elevation
the city describes the trail as asphalt, roughly six to eight feet wide. Rails to Trails Conservancy describes generally gentle rail-trail grades, with more sustained climbing and some root damage farther east toward the state line. No measured slope or current surface inspection is available for this selected section. Expect pavement joints or roots and turn back if conditions are uncomfortable.
Starting location
202 Dailey Street, Piedmont, AL 36272

An October 19, 2026 OpenStreetMap geometry check estimates 1.34 miles from the trail's Dailey Street intersection to that crossing. This is a planning estimate, not a signed milepost distance or a surveyed route. Do not use the whole trail's published length as this outing's mileage.

Start in Piedmont for a short taste of the Chief Ladiga Trail, with an easy return to the same parking area. This outing stays near town instead of committing to the longer climb toward Georgia.

Distance: approximately 2.7 miles out and back, plus the short connection from your parking space. The selected turnaround is immediately before the crossing of The Wagon Road east of town. An October 19, 2026 OpenStreetMap geometry check estimates 1.34 miles from the trail's Dailey Street intersection to that crossing. This is a planning estimate, not a signed milepost distance or a surveyed route. Do not use the whole trail's published length as this outing's mileage.

Start: Eubanks Welcome Center, 202 Dailey Street, Piedmont, AL 36272. The city identifies this as a public trail access with parking, restrooms, water and a gazebo. Walk your bicycle from the designated parking area to the Chief Ladiga pavement; then follow the trail east, toward Georgia. Keep to the rail-trail rather than riding Dailey Street or taking the Pinhoti footpath into the woods.

Course: pass the mapped crossings of South Barlow Street, Harris Avenue South and Woolf Avenue.

Surface and effort: the city describes the trail as asphalt, roughly six to eight feet wide. Rails to Trails Conservancy describes generally gentle rail-trail grades, with more sustained climbing and some root damage farther east toward the state line. No measured slope or current surface inspection is available for this selected section. Expect pavement joints or roots and turn back if conditions are uncomfortable.

Planning: use daylight and follow posted access rules. The reviewed city trail page does not specify a trail admission charge or trail operating hours; its City Hall footer hours are not trail hours. Restroom and water access may depend on facility opening. Ordinary non-motorized cycling is explicitly allowed; this guide does not establish e-bike eligibility. Yield to pedestrians and keep speed low near streets and the welcome center.

Access check: city trail information and notices were reviewed October 19, 2026. Those reviewed sources did not announce a closure of this short Piedmont course. That is a dated desktop check, not an inspection or assurance against a new closure. The separate Anniston extension access issue does not determine conditions here.
