An established separated bicycle path, with a selected public start and a return option.
Start and parking
Start: Chena Lakes Bikeway entrance park-and-ride, east end of Laurance Road before the dam, North Pole, AK.
Federal manager identifies the public park-and-ride at the project entrance on Laurance Road. Use designated public spaces under current gate and work signs. The general recreation area’s 3780 Laurance Road address is not substituted for this entrance start. Borough’s bicycle map places this lot at the east end of Laurance Road before the bikeway turns north, not at the Richardson Highway junction.

Selected ride: Up to 4 miles return. Format: Out and back.

Surface and effort
Paved designated bikeway; gravel lake loops and the proposed Plack Road path excluded. Developed flood-control-area bikeway; embankment and crossing approaches may rise. No measured maximum slope or all-flat claim.
Crossings and shared use
Slow at access roads, driveways, junctions and bridge approaches. Stop and yield at marked crossings; do not extend onto traffic lanes. Yield to pedestrians, keep right, and slow at blind corners. Stop at barriers; never use a traffic-road detour to bypass a trail closure.
Hours, costs and access
Choose daylight and obey posted trail and parking hours. Winter gates and snow affect access. Federal description mentions a summer fee for the borough’s bicycle path. Confirm current applicable entrance/parking terms; no unverified dollar amount or blanket free-use claim.
Reviewed 2026-10-22. Federal manager describes the existing paved bikeway from this entrance, and borough bicycle map separates paved and gravel routes. The new Plack Road access project is proposed/construction scope, not evidence that its new lot or path has opened. The sources do not certify today’s snow, pavement or gate conditions; use a snow-free daytime visit and verify access before travel. This is a source review, not a same-day inspection. Recheck the linked manager before travel.
Map and Directions
Use the named public start and its posted parking signs. The map reference identifies the facility or selected trail area; it is not a surveyed parking stall or navigable route line. Bicycle and e-bike rules can differ; only ordinary bicycle use is established unless noted.
