This is a short ride with two sustained ramp climbs over the return journey. Choose a quiet time, use a low gear and walk your bicycle if the climbing, descent or crowds feel uncomfortable. It is a useful river-view outing for riders comfortable with ramps; it is not a flat lake circuit.
Start at Waterfront Park’s Red Lot
Use the Red Parking Lot for Big Four Lawn, 1001 River Road, Louisville. This is the operator’s public parking reference, not a surveyed stall location. Follow current signs and any event restrictions. Walk your bicycle through the parking aisles to the park-side paved connection at the Kentucky ramp. The owner map places this lot on the river side of River Road, beside the ramp; starting here avoids an assumed crossing from a lot south of that road. Watch for reversing cars and vehicles entering the lot. Parking locations, Visitor map
There is no general park admission charge. The parking page explicitly labels the Blue and Green lots as paid, but does not state a tariff for the Red Lot. Check its present signs rather than assuming every Waterfront lot is free. Vehicles cannot remain after the park closes at 11 p.m. Visitor questions, Parking
Across the river and back
Follow the signed, curved Kentucky bicycle and pedestrian ramp onto the bridge. Keep right, allow room for people stopping to enjoy the view, and control your speed on the descent. The river crossing is separate from motor traffic; the parking approach remains a vehicle interface. Do not use stairs or cut through playgrounds.
Continue across the river and descend the Jeffersonville ramp to its public landing at Big Four Station. Turn around in a clear part of the landing before joining surrounding streets. Jeffersonville identifies the station as the bridge’s public arrival space for walkers and cyclists. The outing does not include Chestnut Street, Spring Street, the Ohio River Greenway or a trip into downtown. Return over the same bridge and Kentucky ramp, then walk through the parking area to your car. Bridge description, Jeffersonville’s public landing
The operator confirms ramp access on both sides. A July 2015 engineering account describes the Indiana approach at roughly 4.8%; that historical design figure is not a current maximum for the entire outing. No surveyed slope or exact car-to-car distance is supplied here. Operator accessibility, Engineering account, indexed evidence only
Timing and rules
Plan this outing in daylight within Waterfront Park’s 6 a.m.–11 p.m. hours. Seasonal restrooms have shorter hours, so bring water and check available services. Ordinary bicycles are welcome, but the bridge prohibits pets except service animals, skates, skateboards, events and motorized vehicles; mobility scooters and motorized wheelchairs have an explicit exception. This draft does not establish e-bike permission. Current park and bridge rules, Visitor questions
Check before riding
The operator says icy weather and Thunder Over Louisville can close the bridge. Its current site also reports Adventure Playground construction nearby; that is not itself a whole-bridge closure notice. Check the operator’s latest updates, both ramp entrances and parking signs before unloading. Do not bypass barriers or substitute a road bridge. Operator updates, Closure guidance
Editorial draft checked October 15, 2026. Local signs, pavement, joints, crowding, wind and the parking connection still need a fresh prelaunch check. The linked visitor map has November 2025 metadata, and the engineering PDF could not be downloaded; only its indexed primary-source passage was available. No navigation track or verified parking pin is provided.
