Big Break short paved regional-trail return

California · Other separated ride

Follow the signed paved Big Break Regional Trail east toward its bridge and Marsh Creek connection. Use the broad paved route, cross only an open bridge at a comfortable pace, and continue no more than one outward mile. Turn earlier at a barrier, public-road crossing or uncomfortable bridge approach, then retrace. Exclude the narrow Levee Top Trail marked No Bicycles, the fishing pier, kayak launch, visitor-center plazas and park-boundary land without access.

Permission and effort: Manager lists biking and the linked map expressly marks the regional course as paved multi-use for bicycles. The separate Levee Top singletrack is bicycle-prohibited. The manager describes the paved regional trail as relatively flat. This is qualitative terrain information; the bridge and parking connections can feel different and have not been surveyed for a maximum slope.

Planning: Park 5 a.m.–10 p.m.; gates 8 a.m.–6 p.m. in October, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. November–February, 8 a.m.–6 p.m. March–May and 8 a.m.–7 p.m. June–September. Return before gate closure. Current manager profile lists no parking fee; fees may change. Visitor-center or group programming is separate. Yield to walkers and horses, slow on the bridge and keep dogs leashed. Wear a helmet; mandatory under 18. Stay on designated trails and out of marsh habitat. No e-bike class eligibility is inferred for every park connector.

Access: Reviewed October 20, 2026: current manager page supports the public start and paved trail. It posts a blue-green-algae danger advisory: keep people and pets out of affected water; this does not itself announce a bicycle-path closure. The linked map is revised July 2019, not current field clearance. New gates, flooding, debris and posted restrictions govern.

Choose comfortable weather, bring water and check current signs before setting out. No parking-space pin, surveyed route or GPX is supplied.
